If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. James 1:5-6

How To Solve a Problem

Problems are sometimes overwhelming. If you allow them to, problems will consume your thinking and take over your life, but it doesn't have to be that way.

The truth is that most problems can be solved! If the problem can't be solved, then consider that it may not not really be a problem. Maybe it's just a fact of life and all you need to do is adjust the way you look at it.

How to Solve Problems

1. The first step is to change the way you think about the problem. Start to think "solution" rather than problem and focus on the solution rather than the problem.

   Every problem has within it the seeds of its solution. You are walking with the Master of the universe and He promised that He would give you all you needed for every situation. Sometimes it's simply a matter of tuning into the Holy Spirit, listening for Gods's solution and co-operating with Him.

2. Define the problem clearly on paper - write it out in detail. When you just stew about a situation it can be hard to see what you need to do. Writing the problem down can help you bring things clearly into focus.

3. Once you've identified the 'bare bones' of the problem, look at it from different perspectives.

   => Why is this situation a problem?
   => Who thinks it's a problem?
   => Is it within your power to solve?
   => What will it take to solve the problem?

4. Think about all the people who are involved

   => Who is helping to make it a problem?
   => Who can help to create a solution?
   => Who is bringing negative energy into the situation?
   => What can you do about that?
   => Who is bringing positive energy?
   

5. Pray about the situation. Ask God to give you His wisdom for the best course of action. Then break the problem down into manageable parts and create a step by step plan.

6. What obstacles stand in the way of a solution? What will you do to get past the obstaces?

7. What resources do you need? How can you access them? Who can help you?

8. Write down possible solutions to the problem. Don't just stick to the obvious, think outside the box!

9. Once you have a list of possible solutions, think them through. Imagine yourself solving the problem using each plan. What is likely to happen in each situation?

10. Mull the different scenarios over and prayerfully choose the path that seems best. Plan what you will do and when you will do it, then take action.

11. If you get stuck, look at the problem again in the light of what you have learned and find a way through. If you need help, ask.

Remember that God is bigger than any problem you have and that He works everything together for good to those who love God.
